Re: Lafette carrying sttraps
They really do look good ... I just wonder ... ATF? My experience with them has been hit-or-miss. Some of their stuff is nice. Some of it...ummmm...isn't. At that price they might be worth it though.

Re: Searching for Field Green Paint
I just realized that I made a typo (we can no longer edit?). In my post above I referenceed 'RLM' colors. That should read 'RAL' colors. I don't do Luftwaffe, baby! You are correct about the flattening agent - it is talc. Basically, automotive flattening agent is clear paint with a bunch of ta...

Re: Searching for Field Green Paint
The MG42's I've seen that were not blued (which is pretty rare) were very light grey. I understand that this is a Zinc phosphate finish. The lightness of the finish I have seen is likely due to 60+ years of use. Lauer Weaponry sells a Zinc solution. I have used it & it works great. The darkness of t...

Re: MG42 Lafette project
Good Score! I wouldn't dye it though - just the rejuvenator looks good. Why make the leather look 'old' when the rest of the tripod looks factory-fresh? Just my .02 ... When I did my tripod, I bought a set of leather pad covers from Schnee. I just sewed them on as-is. Simply carrying & handling the ...

Re: Quick question
There is a member here - 'blanksguy' - who makes a tool to check the curvature of the pressure plate gadget.
I bought one of his tools & it solved a similar problem for me.

Re: Repro K 98 Sniper
I had one of the Ukraine repros on the first replica sniper I built (a short side rail with one of Igor's SSR repro sets) and I was pretty happy with it. It;s not quite 100% compared to finding an original, but it IS a good scope and goes great on a repro sniper. How did the scope perform as far as...

Re: spring assembly in M53 bolt
Mr. Naess, I also have Myrvang's book. It is indeed a great resource. However, somehow or another I got it into my head that the bolt catch device was developed & actually saw use during the war. After re-reading part of the book this afternoon, it is clear that you are correct. While the device saw...

Re: Repro K 98 Sniper
I am definately putting together a shooter. Here is my plan, LOL ..... Get a K98 with a good, clean laminated stock, cupped butt and good looking receiver. The condition of the bore is not a big deal since I am going to have the rifle rebarreled in 7.62x51, bedded and tuned up by a gunsmith who has ...

Re: spring assembly in M53 bolt
The MG3 recup is longer than the MG42 recup, correct?
Since a MG3 recuperator is not a 'drop in' replacement in a MG42, does anyone know if the springs themselves are interchangeable?
*edited for question content*

Re: spring assembly in M53 bolt
What makes you say this?...bolt catches were not employed in 42s until after the war was over.
The rest of your post is very informative.
Is there a source for new barrel recuperator springs? Reading this thread makes it clear that having a few sets in my 'Spares Box' is necessary.

Re: Repro K 98 Sniper
Thank you Kleist.
Can anyone offer any opinions on the repro scopes coming out of the Ukraine lately?
I have figured out who Robert Spielauer is, LOL. I hope to pick up one of his Low Turret mounts.
Evidently, he has a great K98k sniper book coming out very soon.
