Re: Tig or wire feed?
......I will have to keep looking, when I buy my tig it will have to be able to do Aluminum,Steel/Stainless. I have an aluminum spool gun for my miller now. I also want HF start! And foot control included! I understand the desire for the HF start, aluminum capibility and foot control. That being sa...

It is the first time I have seen good photos of these, they look like they have nice sharp bends. Thank you for spending the time photographing them.

Re: What kind of Tig welder?
The copper backer helps prevent the weld material from "falling" behind the back side of the weld. It does this by cooling the steel quicker than air would, copper is a good conductor of heat and as you stated steel doesn't stick to it. TIG is forgiving in that it is slower than other methods of wel...

Re: What kind of Tig welder?
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Remember that when you buy cheap-ass Chinese made Harbor Freight Junk. Agree. That said, just welding the MG42/M53 paid for my HF TIG ($150, I had a 25% coupon and used the regulator from my MIG). And then I also used it on a Cetme flat and assembly, trigger box and severa...

Re: What kind of Tig welder?
Harbor Freight (HF) is most likely the cheapest on the market now, on sell for about $200. You still need the argon bottle and regulator to use it. The HF TIG is DC only which means no aluminum welding with it, only steel. Look on Pirate's website for information on TIG welding. I have one and like ...

Re: Have you finished a cold steel?
The top cover "covers" the slot up and it doesn't show when closed. Be careful of the end of the slot toward the stock, the top cover latches to the end and you would rather be too short at this time then too long. A good "sand" blasting of the receiver when finished will obsure a lot of the CS surf...

Re: Have you finished a cold steel?
I am using a nut and bolt on my cam (trunnion) instead of a rivet. I cannot see a reason to rivet this except for the looks and I have thought of using a socket head bolt and radiusing the head a little bit. The loading doesn't appear to be bad in that direction and it is a S/A so the strange contor...

Re: Have you finished a cold steel?
While you are waiting get all the dimensional information you can find on the receiver. The "blueprint" from coldsteel is marginal. The common re-welds have all the features on them and it is just a matter of lining the pieces up properly (not to say that isn't a hard job). There are several diamens...

Re: Philadelphia vs Cold Steel receivers
I believe I have read elsewhere that the Philadelphia receiver is designed for dummy weapons and does not lend itself to being turned into a S/A weapon. The Cold Steel is designed as a 80% receiver for the purpose of making a S/A weapon. This has been discussed before somewhere on this forum.

Re: Which one an MG34 or MG42?
M53 parts kits are about half the price of the german parts. I would think that if you were using a new receiver and not welding up receiver parts you would go toward the M53 over the MG42 parts.

Re: Have you finished a cold steel?
I finished mine last year with his first "generation" receiver. The second "generation" receivers looked roughter than the one I got. So there is one.

Ok, a $6 spring is one thing, $1,500 -1919-? That is a little more than I am willing to gamble with.

I would like to thank everyone on the board for their support. You have been a GREAT bunch!......... I still have spring refund requests tricking into my IM. I am going to start sending refunds in the order that I have received them. Two weeks wasn't nearly enough time to process everyone so I'm st...

Re: Which one an MG34 or MG42?
Welcome jds15151, I have done a 42 (53) and it is do-able. If I were you I would keep track of this receiver: http://www.mg42.us/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=7190 From the photos it is the best one I have seen so far with a price that is excellent if he can actually do it. There is the "small" issue of gett...

Re: What caused this bolt FAILURE?
Matt-- Looking at your photos its a little tough to see all of the primer pocket of the cartridge case. It looks like a poorly manufactured Berdan primed case. Does the cartridge have the two flash holes in the back of the cartridge? If the two flash holes are not there and the primer is loaded int...

Re: Springs Refunds Everyone Pls Read
I guess you read that mg42.us will not accept the spring refunds. Reading between the lines someone is asking the forum for a spring refund because they think that they have received the money. I don't blame them not wanting to get in the middle of this mess. It sounded like a good idea when this wa...
