I know as time went on they went downhill. 43' is the best year and later in it started to degrade shortcuts lack of stamps ect.I was curious whose were nicest.DFB and CRA had the nicest markings

During WW2 which mg42s had the best fit/ finish ? I'm not asking about which are most rare which factory produced the very nicest.

Not sure,I think most guys buy a gunners box to hold everything. That would have to be one hell of a case to have cutouts.Its a very heavy weapon I cannot imagine foam holding it and it not shifting while carrying,but a gunners chest has supports cut out and are made specifically to hold it. Used small 6/32 screw head on the inside,nut outside.Make sure the bolt clears the bolt heads. For what it's worth you have a better chance selling it with your 4 cut and upping the price.
