Re: M53 receiver stampings don't reach cut barrel shroud.

Thank you for the offer but I am trying to keep costs on this build down and time is not an issue, this build is just to take up any free time I have left over after work and school. I know I can make an extension piece if I absolutely have to but Im just trying to find some easier solutions that do...

M53 receiver stampings don't reach cut barrel shroud.

I just got in my second m53 kit and noticed very quickly that where it was torch cut is at least a full inch further forward than my last one. The BRP stampings I used last time don't reach this far forward. I could fabricate an extension piece but I would much prefer not to. I could also buy one of...

Re: Pictures of MG42 weld up jig - redone sticky

I made my jig with a 1" rod running through the entire receiver milling flats is some places to make it fit. On the front I made a bushing that would fit snug between the barrel bushing and the jig rod. one the back I made an adapter that would slide over the jig rod on one end and the buffer spring...

Re: More Dumb MG42 7.62 Headspace Questions

When I set the headspacing on my mg the extractor ended up being about .01in. away from the face of the barrel so that should not effect your headspace. If it dose then I would take the barrel to a machinist or a really good gunsmith, explain how to headspace the barrel and have them do it. I imagin...

Re: reloading for semi-auto mg53

My mg seems to like 42gr. loads, just going to add 1/2gr. for reliability. Dose anyone have a good source for projectiles? Best deal I have found is .30c a piece for privi 198 grain fmj, some cheeper 170gr. stuff but this privy stuff is much nicer.

Re: Help with Build

Just be carful with the alinement. That alinement is what causes out of battery detonations when its not right. A good way to make sure the bolt runs smooth it to run it through the rails and unlocking piece by hand and if you don't feel any ledges that it has to bump over then it should be ok, it w...

Re: reloading for semi-auto mg53

If you already have 42 and 45 grain loads, why not make a belt with 43 and 44? Mark each belt, and listen to the gun run when you shoot them. The gun will tell you when you get the right amount of powder, as it will run with a cadence that isn't there with too little powder, and doesn't run any bet...

reloading for semi-auto mg53

I just finished my setup for reloading 8mm with 298 grain projectiles and hodgdon h414 powder. My reloading book recommends 45gr. of powder so I made a few to the books spec as well as some at 42gr. of powder since my mg runs really smoothly. It is a long drive for me to testfire so dose anyone have...

Re: MG blew up in my face! Need help

Technically you can headspace an mg with a live round but you best hope it is 100% to spec which is very unlikely and you still won't know if it too deep. I don't know if you have the gauges or not but if you don't, get them. Nobody that knows what they are doing will tell you how to headspace with ...

Re: MG blew up in my face! Need help

8mm shells look near ready to blow. Did you check headspace? I checked it face of the bolt to the barrel has 0.5mm clearance with rollers fully locked, the same as my old yugo. If headspace was bad then it would show on first 10 rounds? Do you have automotive feeler gauges? Can you take your best b...

Re: Help with Build

I've built some that ended up 383mm (over compensated for weld shrinkage) and they work fine. Mine ended up about 1/4 in. short and functions flawlessly. Was having issues until I changed to good ammo. Shorter will likely only require less gas presser to operate, not that one should stray from prov...

Re: Pricing of semi MG/M53 now in 2017?

I don't do the semi 42s, so it may well be worth more. Gunbroker would be a good place to watch to see what the latest selling prices are. For a full auto, it's around $40,000. I see a lot of guns sell for far higher than their real value on there so if I ever do sell that will probably be where. O...

What finish do you prefer on your mg42/53

I am almost done working out the bugs in my mg53 and Im thinking about finishes. I temporarily cold blued the bare metal for protection but it is too uneven for me lo like it. I feel like hot blue would be nice but all of work. Im probably just going to have it parkerized but I have a few questions ...

Re: Help with Build

Ok... guess mine was cut too small ill have to fix it later. I have trouple reading some of the prints from brp witch is why im using some measurements from multiple sources. It seems they are all fairly close just slightly smaller or largwr of an area removed i figured to go mostly on the smaller ...
