Re: Weld up reciever or use a 80%?

I'll take a minute and second Der Alder's opinion. He was of great assistance to me during my build, and I posted most of the build here to the website. Following his advice, I used an 80% rear section and a MG3 buffer section from RTG. It's a little more welding but it saves so much work. It worked...

Re: MG08/15 Parts

Okay my inexperience is showing again. I need to update this post, as several items have sold but I'm don't know how to go about it. The bipod for the Maxim is sold, along with the two USAS magazines. If someone can tell me how to update the images as I have seen others do I will be glad to post the...

Re: MG08/15 Parts

I'm sorry John, but as I said in the original post I really have no idea as to what any of this stuff is worth. As far as contact, feel free to PM me and I will respond. Also, I've never sold anything on this or any other website so it's really a learning experience for me.

Re: MG08/15 Parts

I can try to take some better pictures of the bipod if you would like. I really should take some better shots of the firing pin pieces too.

Re: MG08/15 Parts

I have taken some pictures of the Maxim parts. Additionally, I was given some magazines for the USAS shotgun. Both a drum and a stick mag are available. And I have a fixed stock for a Striker 12ga shotgun too.

MG08/15 Parts

I have come into some rare parts for the MG08/15 Maxim gun. A friend passed away and his wife has asked me to try and sell them. First let me be honest and say I have NO idea what this stuff is worth. I have the bipod, the speed regulator, a trigger and the pieces that make up the firing pin assembl...

Re: Time for Change.

I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. Salt 6 - Steve - has been so much help during my short time here. Been busy with the things that make up living and have been away for awhile. But DerAlder is right, I NEVER could have completed my first build without reading the stickies and build posts from th...

Re: Introductions (or one way to increase your post count).

Hi Woody, This is the place for information on building a semi M53. Look at the build section, there are several posts from previous builds that offer great tutorials. Read them over carefully, several times, to get a good idea as to what's involved. John Baum's books are invaluable for the correct ...

Re: WWII MG42 on vehicle use

I'm in agreement with John. This seems to be a very interesting subject, especially with the historically impressive photos. Real photos from the second world war aren't easy to come by, and I appreciate DerAlders efforts to post them for the rest of us. And the models shown display great attention ...

Re: Optics for the Lafette

I received the optics from the website DerAlder recommended, and I have to say it's a pretty cool looking sight. It came with a really nice leather case, and both items were in very good condition. For any of you members out there that want something to complete your Lafette, and can't fork over $17...

Re: Optics for the Lafette

Hi DerAlder. Thanks so much for the posting. I was able to get a sight ordered so I can "fill the hole" on my Lafette. I'm going to be cleaning my tripod up and painting the chassis to match the MG3 clone my M53 has slowly evolved into. Any ideas, suggestions? What colors are appropriate? ...

Thanks so much to the membership for the leads. As DerAlder said, I just want something to fill the void. I'm going to try ordering one from EBay.

Re: Night sights

I had a chance to check my night sights out. The rear sight, which has probably been covered most of it's life works, but the front sight, which was exposed when I got it, doesn't glow. I don't know of anyway to "recharge" something like that. Can it be done?

Re: MG42 Cleaning

After bead blasting my receiver/shroud assembly, I used a can of automotive brake cleaner to rinse out the inside surfaces. They come with a plastic nozzle to get into the "nooks and cranies" and it worked pretty well for me. It strips all the oil and grease off due to the chemical content...

Re: barrel shroud

Hi John, I completely understand. A few years ago I worked for a fellow who owned a Corvette restoration parts business. While I worked for him, we would stock a booth at "Corvettes at Carlise" Pa. All you saw was the builders buying parts from the time you got there and opened up, until y...
