Re: MG42 Trouble Shooting Testing Discussion

If that happened with me, I'd reduce the powder load. There is no advantage of having that much power that it tears the brass apart. Also, make sure your chamber is clean.

Re: MG42 Trouble Shooting Testing Discussion

With new brass, I load and then reload for 2 shots total before I start inspecting the brass for stress lines in the sides of the cases. Stress lines appear where the brass will crack/tear if fired again. I've had very few cases that made it past 4 shots total before the darkish lines appeared. When...

Re: MG42 Bolt locking

In your pictures, you have the cocking handle pulled rearward. You aren't putting the cocking handle into the gun with the handle rearward, are you? The handle should be forward when you put it in the gun. It is designed so that when you initially pull it back with the bolt forward, it gives you ext...

Re: MG42 bolt locking

To Cliffside: Are you're saying that by pulling back on the charging handle, you can't get the gun to unlock? Full auto gun? or semi? Have you tried taking out the recoil spring, and does pulling back on the charging handle then let the bolt go rearward? With the bolt catch in the bolt housing, the ...

Re: MG42 Trouble Shooting Testing Discussion

My gun runs in 8mm and .308 with the same nozzle. I swap barrels, top covers and feed trays, and it's ready to run. You're having trouble running .308 reloads in the MG42 because they don't have sufficient powder to make the gun operate. With almost the right load, you'll make the gun operate consis...

Re: MG42 Bolt locking

There are curved cam surfaces on the cam piece that stick inside the bolt path. When the bolt is pulled rearward, the cams push in the rollers and allow the bolt to release from the barrel extension. If the bolt won't unlock (pull back) easily even with the bolt catch inside the bolt extension, it's...

And if you look closely at the price tag in the second picture, you'll see that Tim wants $15 for all three. :)

B24 Movie

Yes, it's on Youtube.com and is only 7 minutes long, but it's a great short video about building the B24.

According to the manual (H.Dv. 216/6), an 11 mm nozzle is to be used with .308.

If you want to know who is who with the codes, you must have this book. Highly recommended, and well done.

Re: Phosphate finished bolt

It is a very early bolt, before they started hard=chroming them. Like any bolt from WWII, I recommend not shooting with it, as its wartime quality is not known, and old steel that has been stressed will crystalize and then shatter under more stress. M53 or MG3 bolts are fine, but with wartime shorta...

5 holes the diameter of the bore is the standard European demil. It sucks when you see that someone has screwed up a perfectly good barrel and you need one. :(

Folke did a lot of research before writing the book. Talk to him at Knob Creek and ask how he determined the originality of the cloth slings. I'm certain he has a reason for his opinion, and the story should be interesting.

Re: Is my semi MG42 supposed to be making this noise?

I'd check the front barrel bushing for sticking. The recuperator should slap the barrel forward, as it has to immediately after the bolt head releases. But, if the barrel is sticking somewhat, the recuperator is pushing until it overcomes the sticking and then the barrel slaps fully forward after a ...
