Re: Mg42 on a mg3 tripod

Some guns fit the tripods, some don't. Wiselite receivers which are longer most certainly don't fit right. Your solution will vary depending on what you have and what the problem is. Semi 42's have variable receiver lengths, depending on who made it and how carefully it was kept to original specs.

Re: 10 round belt.

With a belt, the first three links (spaces) are left empty, so that the belt can be hooked onto the little protruding tab on the right side of the feed tray (Fig. 23, page 19 of H.Dv. 241), which keeps the belt from falling out by gravity while you try to get the top cover closed. This spacing align...

Re: Someone to build my mg53

I would have to wonder whether since the receiver has already been welded together, that it's already a firearm, whether it's has the small stuff done to it yet or not. If so, it may be that completing it may not be considered as manufacturing it, since it may be already "manufactured" (li...

Re: The SA42 and 922R regulations????

I would think that each part in the grip, the grip itself, the bolt, and the receiver are all US made, since they are all either new or completely revised to make them work as needed. With the receiver made in the US, do compliance parts even enter the picture?

Re: Wanted: G43 little buttstock manual to scan

My first translation was finished on January 1, 2005, so that's 13 years ago today. The posters I have are printed on heavy, 11" x 17" card stock, and are available in high resolution (Lo Res is shown below), and of course, the real Navy poster doesn't have a black bar on it. I sell them f...

Re: Wanted: G43 little buttstock manual to scan

Wow, this is an old thread. I've had the little G/K43 done for years now. I'm at 173 manuals translated from German, 1 from Swedish, and 1 from French. I have about 10 more sitting here waiting. :)

Re: MG42 blueprints with measures

Actual blueprints would not be available, as the gun is still being made and the owners of the design wouldn't let their blueprints be sold, however other people have made some drawings with dimensions:

Any pictures that are missing on this site that you have, send them to me in an email (to John at Germanmanuals.com), and include a link to the message that it goes to. I'll put it in with the message it's supposed to go with. Otherwise, upload the picture in the message, and don't host it on some o...

Re: MG42 vs M53 ROF

Considering some of the other statements in the article that don't align with reality: The MG42 was developed from the MG34? Really? I guess fast horses were developed from fast cows then. Obviously their designs are completely different (other than a recoiling barrel). If the feed system for the M6...

Re: Someone to build my mg53

A full receiver and shroud? What does that mean, you have 4 pieces and need them trimmed, aligned, welded together straight, assembled into a gun, blued, then made to run as a semi-auto? I'm not trying to sound unsympathetic or negative in any way, just realistic. I think it is very unlikely that yo...

Re: Deckungswinkelmesser - Variations

Part 3: The "standard" WWII Deckungswinkelmesser most commonly found, and the only style that I've found shown in any of the instruction manuals. This one is calibrated in mils only. A circle is commonly divided into 360 degrees. A mil is 1/6400 of a circle (17.77 mils are in a degree). A ...

Re: MG3 Barrels, Bolts and Headspace

I think your search for the source of the problem has been successful. Now I have to wonder if the Germans figure that needing a little bump at the end is considered within specs and the let it break in to working effortlessly like we're used to with the slightly worn and worn barrels we normally fi...

Re: MG3 Barrels, Bolts and Headspace

It would seem that what I posted in my first reply was a disaster - caused by staying up until 4am translating German (best excuse I got), and not being fully functional when I first got up this morning (at 10am). My suggestion works well enough for HK stuff, but not for the 42. Sorry. I'm not even ...

Re: MG3 Barrels, Bolts and Headspace

Headspace might loosen with wear, but it would take a few thousand rounds. I'd probably try a steel bore brush on a rod mounted in an electric drill, with some valve grinding compound on the brush to see if a few thousandths could be taken out of the chamber. The success of that will depend on where...

I recently found an original wood blank, and...

The WWI Deckungswinkelmesser

Part 2: Here are some pictures of a World War I Deckungswinkelmesser. This would be appropriate for indirect fire with the MG08 . It has the scale in the little window calibrated in degrees. The scale window is looked through on the side without the centimeter scale, and this has a loop for hanging ...

Re: New Run Of .308 MG42/M53 Barrels

The barrel itself is only 1/3 of the headspace variable. The other two are the barrel extension, and the bolt. All three need to fit together properly to get the headspace, but the barrel and barrel extension are the two that are able to be adjusted (chamber depth, and how far the barrel is screwed ...

Re: New Run Of .308 MG42/M53 Barrels

Certainly not trying to rain on your parade, but: Are you talking barrels with or without the barrel extension? If without, then they will need set up and the chamber reamed or the barrel spaced or trimmed to get proper headspace. There's a lot of work to make a fireable barrel. Getting a barrel the...
