Re: Maylaisian 7.62 NATO case seperation in MG42

Case separations like that occur because the MG42 shoots so fast, that the case doesn't have time to shrink back down after firing before it is yanked out of the chamber. It'll work fine in other guns because there is more of delay in extraction, so the case, which expands against the chamber of the...

Re: New Member from Belgium :)

I got back from there Sunday night. They shoot twice a year, in April and October. There is also a gun show, and machine gun rentals are available so that people who do not own a machine gun can shoot. I talked with a few Germans, Canadians, and Norwegians there this time. Sometimes, a bus load of J...

Re: New Member from Belgium :)

I keep everything lightly oiled, and put a drop or two on the trigger assembly. A light layer of grease on the rails is good for a gun being shot, but if it is just for display, light oil would be fine. The MG42 does not rust easily, so there is not much to be done for maintenance of a gun that is n...

Re: Hammer follow

Sounds like your recuperator is just fine. You want the most amount possible of recoil spring to be in the gun without binding when the bolt is fully rearward. And remember that the bolt actually compresses the buffer spring a bit too, so there has to be a little extra room left over when the rear o...

Re: Hammer follow

Have you tried a different recoil spring? Considering that most semi guns have barely enough recoil force to operate, yours isn't the worst problem to have. You can always go with a slightly oversized nozzle.

Re: Interchangeability

yes, the MG42, M53, and MG3 bolts are all the same, (other than the difference in the type of extractor, spring, and retainer, and that the MG3 bolt has a spring loaded feed lever pin). They take the same buffer, but the M53 buffer also requires an M53 stock (German and Yugo stocks are not identical...

Re: Donation link

I deleted the previously existing donation link. First off, I know that some of the other gun boards have links for donations, and/or send out emails begging for donations. I won't do either. The software to run this board is free, and the yearly fee for the MG42.US name registration and website ser...

I put hi res pictures of it on my website. It isn't perfect, but its the only one I have left. It's for sale to whoever pays for it first. I can take it to Knob Creek if you want to pick it up there. John Here's a link to an original German tool from Russia that's for sale. 60 euros will get it to t...

Re: Way fast firing MG42

The problem is that with using a heavy bolt, which is available to buy, it's supposed to be used with a heavy buffer, which isn't available to buy. Don't use the heavy bolt without the proper buffer, or you'll beat the gun to death, and I don't want to even be near when that happens.

The night that Bush banned barrel importation, I got online to Numrich Gun Parts and ordered 8mm barrels at $35 each, and .308 barrels for $25 each. Now THOSE were the days.

Re: Mg42 receiver for sale

If building a 42 was easy, everyone would do it. That's why the 42 builder smiles at people who "build" an AR15. It's because he knows that an AR isn't built, it's just assembled. There IS a difference. BUILDING a 42 is an entirely different beast, requiring skills, not just a barrel wrenc...

I think perhaps my days spent as a car and automatic transmission mechanic helps with this.

I figure that if I have difficulty understanding what is said, so will others, so I inject notes where I think it will help. :D

Thanks for letting me know it's worth the trouble. :wnana:

Re: removal of Bolt Rear Post/Bearing

You have to grind off the flattened part of the pin that holds it in place. You'll find that on the bottom of the bolt.
