Re: Mg42 receiver for sale

If building a 42 was easy, everyone would do it. That's why the 42 builder smiles at people who "build" an AR15. It's because he knows that an AR isn't built, it's just assembled. There IS a difference. BUILDING a 42 is an entirely different beast, requiring skills, not just a barrel wrenc...

Re: Review of John Baum's German Manuals

I think perhaps my days spent as a car and automatic transmission mechanic helps with this.

I figure that if I have difficulty understanding what is said, so will others, so I inject notes where I think it will help. :D

Thanks for letting me know it's worth the trouble. :wnana:

Re: removal of Bolt Rear Post/Bearing

You have to grind off the flattened part of the pin that holds it in place. You'll find that on the bottom of the bolt.

Re: Something Special we have been working on...

Considering the different flavors of semi-auto guns out there, tuning a conversion to a one size fits all solution might be difficult, to say the least. Tuning the nozzle size might also be needed.

Re: Increasing MG42.us traffic and value

No offense was taken, I'm caught up on bills, and trying to get some free time to get to do the things I want to do, instead of the things I need to do.

Lafette forum works for me. It's on the list.

Re: Increasing MG42.us traffic and value

My comment wasn't that the board had little traffic, it's that the message bases had few new messages, which I think is because we've already pretty well covered how to build and what can go wrong. Salt isn't around anymore, this board is mine. When I have time, I make modifications and delete thing...

Excellent news. Be sure to let me know when you get either conversion ready to sell. I have a full auto MG42 myself.

Re: Something Special we have been working on...

The bolt head woudn't need changed, since the base of the 7.62 x 39 cartridge is the same as the 8mm and 7.62 x 51. That leaves the barrel, which I would guess needed to be lighter, a smaller nozzle to help increase recoil, and the feed tray, which needs to be shorter. That leaves maybe the feed paw...

Re: Recoil Nozzle play

rather than erosion, it sounds more like the threads were packed full of crud and it just needed cleaned. Glad it worked out, and the little notch showing on the front of the threaded end in the picture is irrelevant to anything.

Re: Recoil Nozzle play

If you got the part the booster screws onto from BRP, what did they say about the fit?

Re: Recoil Nozzle play

According to the manuals, the booster gets screwed on tight, then backed off just enough for the detent lever to drop into the first available slot.

Re: PMs not sending

When the recipient opens the PM, it is removed from your outbox. I sent one to a guy who lost interest in the board and it sat there for 5 years before I deleted it.

As you can see, now that I've read your PM to me, it's gone from your outbox.

The barrel release lever looks OK, it's the barrel door that looks bowed in the middle.

Re: My first MG42?

There is no bolt extension, so it looks full auto to me. You can see that the barrel door isn't straight. Looks like someone blew the gun, and the barrel door popped open from bending in the middle. You have to take off the door by drilling the rivets, then you can straighten it properly in a press ...

If a factory round fits, it's not too tight. Like I said about my AR10 - factory fits, but I had to tighten up the dies to make reloads fit.

Re: 308 MG42 Ammo Reloading

First off I'd make sure the chamber is clean. If you need to remove a few thousandths, use a stainless steel bore brush that fits the chamber, and some polishing compound. Spin it on an electric drill. Check frequently. If the factory round fits and your reload doesn't, I wouldn't polish the chamber...
