Re: MG42
What size nozzle are you running. You could try a slightly smaller nozzle to increase the recoil pulse. Try that and see if it helps.

Re: Looking for an original MG AA tripod with a MG34 cradle
Look at the date on the message the guy left, Bob (11 months ago). I can only guess, but if he hasn't answered by now, he probably doesn't want it.
I'd suggest gunbroker, with close up pictures of the waffenamts to prove it's authenticity.

MG42 and steel cartridges
Do be careful with steel cased ammunition. It corrodes from the inside, can look just fine on the outside. It would be embarrassing to blow up your gun due to cheap ammo. I've seen the receivers get split just below the barrel extension, and barrel gates blown out and bent from blown steel cartridge...

German reasoning for the MG42 high rate of fire
I'm translating the 1944 edition of the German Order Police "Weapons and Shooting Technical Guide" book (about 700 pages). This book has information that I've never read anywhere else, and will be available in a few more weeks (I'm proof reading it now). One matter that has always been questioned, i...

My mother died at 96, so I'm hoping to at least match that.... that means I'll be hanging around for another 25 years.

Yup, doing OK. The electrical inspector wanted to know if it was OK for him to recommend me to other people (just got done upgrading a 100 amp service to 200 amps). I told him no, I'm trying to retire, I'm just not successful at it so far.

Re: Top Cover parts issue.
Take both connecting levers off and compare them side by side. It looks to me like the pawls on the two covers are mounted in different locations (one more forward than the other) and that the connecting levers are the same.

Re: heart attack
I'm doing OK, I just can't do OK 10 hours a day anymore. 3-4 is more like it I'm still translating German stuff - working on a 650 page 1944 German Police Weapons and Shooting Technical Instruction book. All about shooting theory and proper use of a bunch of guns and police accessories and equipment...

Doing well here. I wasn't doing badly before the heart attack. Laying in bed for a few weeks after the bypasses and getting out of shape from that, was the worst thing I had to get over.

Re: heart attack
I did the mile walks for the first couple months, but I've got too much work to do to manage walking every day too. My mother lasted until she was almost 97, so I figure I've got another 25 years to go since my heart got a rebuild

Re: 8mm barrel and carrier sold for $1025.
US prices for a semi-auto MG42 are about half of your example, although that gun is exceptionally nice.
A full auto MG42 that can be privately owned is about $50,000 here.

For that kind of money, it should be gold plated.

If you think prices have gone nuts, you're right.
A new in wrap German 8mm Mauser MG42 barrel, in a carrier, sold on Gunbroker for $1025.

MG 81 manual in English
For those with an MG81 interest, I've translated the German Luftwaffe's 1944 operating manual for the MG 81.
See the ad on my website:

A very thorough and well illustrated manual.

Re: Original MG81 manual
All prices are insane lately. My $180 98K? $900 now. An MG 42 goes for $60,000 now. I paid $900 for my first machine gun. Those sell for $18,000 now. If you don't like the prices now, wait a few years and you'll want today's prices back. The German Weapons and Shooting Technical Guide book I'm trans...

Re: Original MG81 manual
Expensive? yes, but manual prices are higher than ever. An MG34 Butz manual is frequently in the $200 range, and they're common. The most expensive manual I've seen was for a German tracked howitzer. It sold for $1300+ There has to be at least two people who want it badly for any auction sale to be ...

Re: Ammo belt I’d please MG34?
The links that fully surround the cartridges like that means that the cartridge had to be extracted from the belt by pulling it rearward. The only German guns I know of that do that are the Maxim series - the MG08 and MG08/15.
