Re: Seeking a gunsmith for a Wiselite M53, Frustrated and Out of ideas.

Glen (flemgunner) is fully capable of taking a pile of pieces and making something that works every time. His problem will be finding time to do it, and like getting anything fixed that doesn't run (washing machine, car, or gun), probably won't be able to tell you the cost of fixing it until he actu...

Re: On the Eastern Front, Mariongrad.

I am always annoyed when ebay sellers advertise a Yugo sling as "genuine WWII German". Especially when people pay too much for them because the seller said is was German and the buyers don't know any better. Education, by reading or researching in other ways, is always a cheap price to pay...

Re: Replacing locking rollers

Different bolt/roller design. The rollers themselves don't set the headspace on a 42, it is the roller pins. With a 42 bolt, the roller pins can't be a different diameter, because they wouldn't fit right in the bolt head if they were.

Re: More Dumb MG42 7.62 Headspace Questions

Thanks John, I emailed him, He has none? Thanks Pat Pat "He has none?" What does that question mean? You emailed him when he says he was closed for inventory? I'd probably tell you I didn't have anything either if you asked when the website says I'm closed for inventory. What did you ask ...

Re: More Dumb MG42 7.62 Headspace Questions

I have more time tonight: DQ1 The extractor should not protrude past the bolt face, therefore it will not affect headspace, which is determined by the rollers in the barrel extension grooves, and how far the barrel is screwed into the barrel extension (how far it protrudes into the inside of the ext...

Re: More Dumb MG42 7.62 Headspace Questions

I'm always looking for new manuals. I've seen a few that contained the information that is already in other manuals I've translated, so I won't do those because there's nothing new. If there's something new, I'd be happy to have more information. Manuals can be scanned (400 DPI or higher is preferre...

Re: Pricing of Original German MG42 8mm barrel

S300 would probably be the bottom price, with lots of rifling it goes up. Last one I had for sale was a year ago and I sold it for $280.

Re: Where to buy loose bolt head?

Right. Uh, the only guess I'd have for that request is that you'd have to send your barrel to the bolt head seller and have him check it with your gauge. There is no practical way to get what you're asking. Buy the bolt and take your chances, or take your barrel and gauge to Knob Creek in a few week...

Re: Make my own headspace gage?

I don't know what kind of reloading press and dies you have, but it's impossible to size the brass too small with my Dillon set up. The bottom of the die comes to rest on the shell plate. You can't compress past that. A different bolt head gives different headspace results. It would likely be all yo...

Re: Bolt stuck

The spring loaded pin on the bolt housing for the feed lever is an improvement that had nothing to do with your problem. Make sure the chips didn't come out of the cam surfaces. A dental mirror is good for checking that. If the cam surfaces are chipped, the cam needs replaced.

Re: Make my own headspace gage?

When reloading brass, an inspection before they are reloaded is necessary, especially if you're shooting in an MG34 or 42. Look for slight discolorations in a lengthwise line, or a slightly dark ring about 1/8" above the extractor groove. Brass can only take just so much strain before it separa...

Re: Make my own headspace gage?

" If I go to the Max Head Space in the 308 Gage, then I should be good for 7.62? " I have no idea. I never wanted to play with the tolerances like that. "Do you have any additional advice on how the rollers should feel when testing?" Rollers should go 100% outward. A little extra...

Re: Make my own headspace gage?

Cases stretch and shrink. They also compress, such as when they are resized in a reloading press. How many times it takes to do that (be resized) by being pushed into a chamber, which may or may not be worn or within specs, is anybody's guess. I suppose it would be good for at least one use. After t...

Re: TNW SA MG34 Failure to feed

I've seen the feed tray cause this problem before, that's why I suggested you swap it.

Hakentt needs to learn to be nice, or go away.
