Re: MG-34 belt pull strength is weak - normal?

The feed system on the 34 fully advances the cartridge during the rearward stroke of the bolt. The 42 advances the cartridge half-way on the rearward stroke, and the other half on the forward stroke. That makes the 42 a much more efficient system, due to the better leverage of only doing half the wo...

Re: bnz MG42 Barrel with a “ch” marking

Barrel extensions from worn out barrels were often reused with new barrels. A barrel extension cannot be dated by what is on the barrel, and vice versa. I even have a .308 barrel with an extension that has a waffenamt. If this was being done post-war, it was certainly being done in war-time.

Re: MG34 bolt breakdown

I'd say you need to buy at least the MG34 manual D 124/1, or even better, the Butz manual about the MG34. From D 124/1, page 22: e ) Disassemble the bolt: 1. uncock the bolt by twisting the bolt head in the bolt housing and release the firing pin lever 2. disengage the firing pin detent of the firin...

Re: Phosphate finished bolt

I acquired one of those unchromed bolts a few years ago, but I'm figuring on living to around 96, so I'd say if Schmisser doesn't sell his to you, remind me in about 30 years if you're still interested in buying one. :) They're certainly an uncommon find, and I'll be keeping mine for a while. I have...

It's a software glitch. I'll try to get it fixed tonight. All pics are still there, it's a problem linking to the folder they're in.

A Quick Guide to Machine Gun Maintenance

Glenn Fleming, a serious builder and repairman, has a new book out. This is presently available only as a Kindle book, but will be for sale on paper soon. Glenn is known for his builds and helping others here, so I have confidence his 96 page book will be a big help to all of us. It will be posted h...

I saw an unused "new in grease" MG34 feed tray sell at Knob Creek for $400. Wow.

Re: M53 REceiver?

MG34.com had a German kit for sale at the Show of Shows. The front half of the receiver was uncut. It ended aft of the cam piece with a saw cut. I think it was $2,200.

Re: M53 REceiver?

The number 53 is on left side of the rearmost part of the receiver, so I'd say, well, hmmm, probably a 53.

Re: Wisconsin man prosecuted for dealing firearms without license

With as easy and cheap as it is to get an FFL (compared to lawyer fees, court fees, and possible jail time/confiscation of your stuff), why would anyone be so stupid to do this, especially after being warned? If you want to improve your collection by trading/selling, and you're only interested in WW...

Re: WTB. Great condition original MG42 Tripod

Most people learn early on that anything from IMA is a crap shoot, and that paying for the "hand select" upgrade is dubious at best. I've bought nice stuff from there, and I've had a few items that were crap. It's just the way they are.

Re: WTB. Great condition original MG42 Tripod

Would it be correct to believe that what you want is actually a lafette, and not the tripod? They're two different things for the 42. The lafette is a ground mount that can have a telescope mounted on it, it has a searching fire device and mounts the gun securely in place. The tripod is like a big t...

Also bear in mind semi 42s are kind of a nightmare to get running correctly. Thats why most folks only work the FA ones.

Re: Please help me find a legit builder

The limiting factor is how many people are licensed to build the gun. Most builders are home do-it-yourself types. Building a gun for someone else, even if it's just building (welding together) the receiver, requires a license. Most people with the necessary skills don't have an FFL manufacturer's l...
