Re: Receivers from BRP

Congratulations Rodom. That's quite an accomplishment.
Sorry I haven't been around for awhile. Sounds like you got it all figured out. Very happy for you. Enjoy.
Oh yeah. Having a lafette really increases your ammo consumption.

Re: New MG42/M53 build

I ran into this same discrepancy during my first build. Print hasn't changed. 8.310 is the right number.

Re: Receivers from BRP

Hi Rodom. So sorry for the delay. Just discharged from hospital today. pre-heating is mostly for slowing the cooling of the welded parts. If they are cold they can cool and shrink too fast and crack. There are other reasons and quite a science to it but for this I have just jigged it up and used a t...

Re: Receivers from BRP

The ar15 trigger is more forward on my original style brp weld-up fcg. I suspect the aluminum grip is the same.

Re: Receivers from BRP

Good progress Rodom. How does the recup. seat in the mg3 buffer tab? Just asking as I will be doing same thing. Oh, the old style bolt mod works fine. You want to pre-heat before welding extension. Carrier is hardened. Seen some with cracked welds but mine has been fine for over 1000 rds. Pre-heated...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Rodom, The prints from brp cover the recup. modifications. and take that into acount. Here is a picture of mine that might clear it up.
P.S. that looks like a great lafette. Also, this really should be installed before your receiver is welded into one piece.

Re: MG-74 Clone

Had some free time in the shop today and made some progress. Milled groove in ratchet plate. Milled down charging handle to semi specs. Milled rear of shroud square and figured length from rear of cam opening. Using Global machine shells and mg3 rear stub. Figured I would try this out after Der Alde...

Re: Receivers from BRP

I recall the mg3 rails were wider than the old m53 ones. I ended up milling .010" or so off the back side where it entered my shroud. My shroud was long and it had the rivet dimples to clear. Maybe your shroud is slightly narrower than the rear and pinching in front where it enters the shroud. Rails...

Re: Receivers from BRP

There was some discussion on how far forward the rails should be on my" new m53 build" thread. The consensus was as close as possible. This way the d-holes back up the cam piece. All my cam pieces show finish wear from rail contact and others saw the same thing. Are you using new undrilled mg3 rails...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Rodom, If I understand right, you don't have your bolt carrier yet. You want your hammer to be square with the rear of the carrier where it contacts the firing pin. I would hold off on fine adjustment until you can mock it up and see the angle of hammer contact and go from there. A lafette is also h...

MG-74 Clone

As the title says, Working to get as close of a reproduction as possible within my means. Starting at the front. Turned down a BRP crimp style original barrel bushing. Made a sleeve with a .003" interference fit in bore. Heated bushing and inserted core bushing. Pretty much a solid piece now. .003" ...

Re: Receivers from BRP

Rodom, the radius cuts in the ejection port are used for the twist in lugs on the semi gripstick. You will need these for sure. I used the trigger adapter from brp and at 25 dollars it can't be beat. I'm pretty sure the same dimensions apply for the aluminum gripstick. I would stick to the dimension...

Re: Need help with Wise Lite Gen 2 M53

I don't see the op's original post rising to the level of slanderous. On the other hand, calling him a liar is another thing entirely. It's a shame they couldn't work this out. "Mr.J" should consider working on his pr skills.
Certainly doesn't appeal to me to patronize his company.
