MG34&MG42 books for sale

Its been a while since I posted any books for sale on here, but lets try again for the new and enthusiastic readers. I am the author of the Collector Grade books MG34&MG42 German Universal Machineguns and From the MG08 to the MG3, which is the follow up volume. Both books are available from me at 80...

Re: "dot 1940"

Thats new to me. I have only seen one gun with a dot 1940 marking before and that is a cutaway that resides in the Czech army museum in Prague. There was probably a very small number of guns made that year. Nice!

Re: Firing from the shoulder

I agree, firing the MG34 or MG 42 from the shoulder is not that big a deal if you know how. Shooting the MG08/15 from the shoulder would require a BIG person with lots of bulging muscles. It is all I can do to move mine from one place to the other. Does anyone have a carry sling for the MG08/15 or ...

Re: Firing from the shoulder

When I do instructions on how to use the MG3 for the soldiers I normally do a demo where I shoot prone, kneeling behind a wooden bench with the bipod folded and resting on the bench, from the hip and finally from the shoulder standing up firing it like a rifle. I can hit a group of man sized target...

Re: Top cover opening after firing on M53

I have a Wiselite M53 that had a Yugo top cover originally but I changed it out to a Mg42 Top cover. The gun works great except for when I switched the top covers out. The top cover is popping open when firing blanks. I have not fired live ammo with the WW2 top cover. Any ideas? The spring for the ...

MG3 heavy bolt and buffer

Latest catch, finally was able to get my hands on a set of heavy bolt and buffer for MG3. Made by Rheinmetall. I will have to go to the range sometime in the fall and get the correct cyclic rates and compare to the normal parts.

MG15 wooden mechanism cover

Here is a pic of my MG15 with wooden cover. I forgot it when it was discussed before. Its a bit more unusual than the bakelite covers and I am guessing it was dropped in 1939 or so.

Re: MG42/59 Identification

Interesting gun! If you could send me the pics in high resolution I could use them in the possible third volume on the MG34-42 guns. E-mail folkem@online.no Regarding the flash hider, I dont know what made the Italians design this. It has no connection with the German muzzle brakes, which were exper...

The flash hider is Italian for sure. Would be interesting to get detail shots of the gun.

Hi Folke will go through all my documents and make some detailed notes. You can with pleasure include this in vol 3 together with the work on the sight which you have seen. Tim Vol 3 is just starting to come together. I invite you to share your knowledge and write about what has not been covered be...

Re: kl Vorratskasten and kl Waffenwerkzeugsatz

Tim, these boxes are quite interesting. I have only been able to find one V-kasten and the V is a bit blurry. The A marked boxes I have never seen before. I strongly suggest that you go through all your notes and make some detailed info on the Portugese contract as you seem to have more info on it t...

Re: Tasche mit Trommelhalter/Zufuhrertasche

The pouch you have is in brown leather, which was not normally used by the Germans for this type of pouch. It appears to be unmarked, so the claim to be nazi era is a bit far fetched, as it could be made by anyone for anything. Last, it bears no real resemblance to the pouch that is actually identif...

Thats not the pouch for the top covers. The correct pouch is shown in good pictures, both original shots and an example of the pouch in my second book on German Machineguns.

Re: kl Vorratskasten fur MG Laf 42

Thats interesting, although not much more than hearsay at this stage almost 70 years later. Tony Budge and the guys at Ryton Arms always told us that there were some boxes in between that had German markings on them, but of course could never show us one. Anyway, the boxes may have been ordered by t...

Re: Telescopic sight system Wild/Carl Zeiss

Hi Tim, good to see you active and well. I am pleased to see that an example of this sight finally showed up. I have been aware of it for a long time and considered to include it in my first book. It is not intended for the MG34, but is rather, as you suggest, a more general machinegun sight to be u...

Re: MG15 with wood? Any pics?

I have a complete 1938 dated MG15 in the crate with everything - test target, notebook and the whole nine yards. It has a wooden action cover. The wooden covers were only used with the first guns. Probably a lot easier to make them in Bakelite and not so prone to damage. I have seen one gun with a s...
