So how does one tell a Yogo range plate from any of the others?
I'm guessing the Yugo lefettes are teh same colour as thier basket drums?

Re: MG42/53 Markings
Thanks Longhorn, are those lafettes Yugo or newer german ones? I'm guessing if you got one they will fit the M53 without bother.

Re: MG42/53 Markings
I'd love a Lafette but I'm in even deeper unknown water there. Did the Yugo's make one for the M53 and does it differ from the german ones much. I'm sure the price differs if they did make their own! All the ones I've seen for sale have been quite a bit more than the gun its self was. I will have to...

Re: MG42/53 Markings
Thank you for your comments. I purchased it with the understanding it was a M53. It was only later when cleaning it I found the markings and came on this forum to try and explain them. I admit, now with a little more info I find it odd how it got WaA marks on the receiver/shourd when these seem to b...

Re: MG42/53 Markings
Hello, Yes the WaA is the only German marking I can see on the receiver. There are very few german markings on the gun. The only others are the WaA cof on the belt pawls and the dfb WaA on the biepod that I have seen. The rest are Sxxx-xxxx etc etc or BK or now and then a W in either a box or a tria...

Re: MG42/53 Markings
I stripped it down this morning to have a good look for you and the reciever and shroud are one peice. I'm not saying its German as from what Ive read this longer taper shroud type rerceiver is Yogo... But it does have WaA marks on it. lol Doesn't anyone else have a Yogo one with German markings on ...

Re: MG42/53 Markings
To answer the questions.. The shourd doesn't have the AA mounting at the front. The numbers don't match. Like I said before it makes little difference to me as to wether its a '42 or '53. I got it knowing and exspecting it to be a '53 and was amuzed to find many german markings. I personaly don't th...

MG42 50 round drum colour
I've just picked up a 50 round drum for my MG. Simple-ish question. What colour should it be? It's a light green now but looks like it was black before. Is there a right colour or is it more a case of depending on the theater it was being used in decided its colour? I see some have been restored on ...

Re: A 1941 dated byf MG42?
Makes me glad I wasn't after a genuine MG42. Least I know no one seems to bother faking M53's!

Re: MG42/53 Markings
Not a very good picture but you can just see the WaA to the right of the dfb. I think mine needs alittle TLC before it gets anywhere near the condition of some of the guns on this site!

Re: MG42/53 Markings
Hi, I looked at one of your old post just last night about the differances between the two showing the taper finishing by either the first hole (MG42) and second (ish) hole on the MG53. My taper look like it is the latter and so is an MG53, with a german receiver. It has Yugo markings above the Germ...

Re: MG42/53 Markings
Hi,
Thanks for the welcome Bil.
I had a look in the stickies to try and figure a few things out but the differences seem to be so small in some cases its hard (for me anyway) to tell the differances between them!
I'll continue reading and see what I can learn.

MG42/53 Markings
Hi Everyone. I'm sorry if this has been covered before. I tried to find answer in the search but got somewhat lost in the wave of posts! I picked up my first MG a couple of days ago beilived to be a eary Yugo '53 one. When I got around to stripping and cleaning it though I found a number of marks wh...
