Re: MG42/59 Booster cone needed.

Other MG42 types have a booster with an expansion chamber in front of the muzzle bearing, which is most evident in the one piece booster design of the Rheinmetal versions and evolution of the MG3 and later. Unless that disc is pressed up against the face of the muzzle bearing and has an exit hole th...

Re: Need some input on a transferable MG42

Definitely a DLO remanufactured and registered MG42. I have brokered several of DLOs reman 42s in the last ten years. Reman 42s are actually quite scarce, which is unfortunate simply because the guns are so popular and remans are less valuable and can be repaired/reblued, etc without damaging the va...

Re: MG08 or British Maxim?

I would add the following observations. Receiver has the two stock mounting bosses on lower left side, which seem to show up on a variety of early Maxims, but were typically installed on the early Naval Maxims. Tapered waterjacket indicates early brass pattern as does the brass grip frame.Topcover a...

Re: A little Dutch shopping.

The part you note as a"toggle" is the 42 sear. AA sight is original. Making a comparable repro is not a worthwhile task for the effort or the money. Maybe in a few years. The AA sights are stamped with a very small waffen on the top rear and early ones were serialised to the gun. No Mg42 parts were ...

Re: Sideplates, deactivation and NFA rules

Correction: there is no differentiation between German Maxims and Russian Maxims in regard to which plate is controlled. The RIGHT sideplate is now the controlled part on all Maxims and Vickers. Further, it is illegal to export ANY MG parts, which also include mounts, without state department approv...

Re: 4th Position Stoppage

Here's my $.02…. Read through the string and 08 owners are pretty familiar with the issues of light strikes and other failure-to-fire ailments. I would offer one correction, which is that on full-auto the lock fires only from the "safety sear", contrary to what one poster noted. The first round fire...

Re: MG15 with wood? Any pics?

There was a very long string about German and Jap production of action covers over the last year or so in which the issue of Jap use of Bakelite came up. The Jap T1s and T98s usually always have wooden covers, but there are examples with Bakelite as well. However, neither the Jap wooden or Bakelite ...

Re: Drumholder for mg15. Walue?

If you paid $1000 US for the carrier and two drums, that is about right. In the last of couple years, I've found two of the carriers without drums for customers in the $3-400 price range. They show up now and then in the US for sale.

Value is in the $4-500 range, although condition is not 100% so it mo get be somewhat less than that.

Re: MG 08 finally home

The 08s used a slightly taped hardwood "cork" to stop the hose connection port rather than an actual cork plug as pictured. The pictured cork and chain appear to be a Vickers assembly which will do the job, but is not correct. The chains were the stamped and folded link style as used elsewhere on th...

Glassmluntains writes: You could have the barrel rechambered to 30.06 then install a .308 ordnance (adaptor) sleeve. I did this for a Jap Type 99 to shoot the 7.62 NATO blanks. Worked very well. While this can work for .310-.312 bores, the MG13 is 7.92 and the larger bore ID would eliminate bullet s...

Re: Cleaning inside of water jacket after firing?

Fabricate a rolled cone from aluminium flashing or whatever else you can use, with the small end to fit into the barrel housing and the large end to pass out of the end of the receiver with the grips removed. A hair dryer or hot air paint remover can be inserted into the large end and run on medium ...

The stamp is the logo for Steyr/Solothurn model of the MP34 of Austria who manufactured the gun. Many were made for export contract sales from 1939 through 1940. Most likey it is the M/42 model if in 9mm Para. Early production Mp34s were made from 1934 by Steyr, Daimler, Puch in three different cali...

Re: Japanese Type 1 (Type 98/MG-15 clone) reactivated

Looking at the T61 offered on auction, I did not have that gun in the lot that I torched at Century Arms, which is evident to me by which parts that are torch cut and by the torch technique used. The MG15s that I handled and torch cut had the inner receiver removed and destroyed, but the outer shell...
