Re: i am thinking about making a 7.62x54r m53

Firstly the only thing you need a starter tab for is loading a belt without opening the topcover. Since no one is shooting back, I hope, there isn't any real need to do that. In the case that you want to do it anyway you simply make a starter tab that will attach to the trailing link rather than the...

Re: i am thinking about making a 7.62x54r m53

Why not just make a starter tab that will hook up on the trailing end. No need to alter the belts as the segments will still join properly even if you run them the other direction. We just finished building a few hundred semi auto Vz59s so I'm pretty familiar with the belts. I've been working with t...

Re: i am thinking about making a 7.62x54r m53

I know this is a three year old thread but I figured I'd like to revive it. Some great ideas in here. I must say the vz 59 belts sound great in theory but I see two main problems with that. Design and again the design, the vz 59 is a right hand feed left hand eject (for belt) the MG42 feeds from th...

Re: Maylaisian 7.62 NATO case seperation in MG42

None of those pieces are likely to change the operation as far as case head separations are concerned. They don't really affect any of the pertinent operations. The mainspring may help if you have feed issues but won't change they way the bolt unlocks. The trunnion shouldn't change anything unless t...

Re: Maylaisian 7.62 NATO case seperation in MG42

Most of the 308 barrels I've seen came from Austria and were for the MG74. They are license built versions of the MG3 with a few mods like the finned barrel bearing sleeve and the fancy trigger housing with single shot capability. In any case the barrels may or may not be chrome lined and won't like...

Re: MG42 vs M53 ROF

I'm with John on this one.....don't always believe what you read. After seeing a number of M53 post 86 dealer samples running at shoots or demos I see no difference between them and the MG42 regarding rate of fire. There are variations between guns of the same type however so maybe the writer saw an...

Re: Maylaisian 7.62 NATO case seperation in MG42

Over the years of shooting Full auto MG42s we had a lot of issues pop up. Case head separations did occur but not very often. When it did occur it was normally an ammo related issue and something that would happen in a particular barrel and not necessarily others. From your original post it sounds l...

Re: 308 MG42 Ammo Reloading

Great responses; thanks to all. I have been told that the German machine gun makes make the chambers a little tight because they heat up so quickly once firing begins. There really does seem to be a difference between the size of brass coming out of a US made reloading die and the size of ammo made...

Re: MG08/15

I'd suggest Johns manuals too and I'm not connected in any way. His translations are top notch and quality of the manuals is excellent. Even if you can read German finding an original manual will be difficult and very pricy. At one time IMA sold the socket for the bipod as a separate piece for those...

Re: MG08/15

Back a few years guys were using Bren tripods because they were cheap and everywhere. Now they're not. There are still tripods for the MG3s and some guys have made up adapters for them too. You can adapt to any tripod if you're handy. I had mine on a bren tripod. They work just fine on the bipods to...

Re: HK marking on MG34

There was an inspectors proof HK found on yugo or czech manufactured ZB26- and later guns. I've seen it on other guns as well. It is quite possible the MG34 had gone through a rework at one of the factories in one of those countries or had been built there. DOT was in Brno CZ of course. Hard to tell...

Re: 1934 MG34 BSW

Its been faked up. Look at the fonts on the numbers in various locations. Also note the serial number on the bipod.....never seen one numbered like that. You're right, the guy hasn't got a clue about the trigger. They are all (normally) select fire, not full auto only. The MG42 has no semi setting a...

Re: How to Blank adapt a PM 1910 Maxim?

the easiest way is to buy a blank adapter made for the gun. The Finns made them up and apparently used them. Northridge had some at Knob Creek a few years back. You might check their website along with numrich and sarco. If you can't find one it is possible to make a new orifice for your standard bo...

Re: Crack in MG 42 Receiver and stuck cases

As I said in the first post details will help a lot. As for the steel cased ammo that is not the problem and isn't a problem for the gun. It was designed to use steel cased ammo from the start. Steel is much more consistent in operation and at the speed the gun runs will have much fewer issues. The ...

Re: Crack in MG 42 Receiver and stuck cases

There was no pic attached to the post. It will help considerably to give more detail on the the sticking cases and chances are that the crack has nothing to do with the sticking. It is quite possible that the crack has something to do with a recuperator that is worn out and needs new springs. You sh...

Re: Belts, 50, 150, 250..????

There are huge differences in the MG53 belts. They are made from disintegrating links and are 50 cal. The MG53 is a US made commercial 50 cal built by colt. The M53 is the Yugo copy of the WWII German MG42. The M53 belts are identical to the German WWII 8mm belts but they have no markings on the att...

Re: Replacing Barrel Collar

What is a barrel collar? Are you putting a leash on your barrels? Are you talking about the Barrel Extension which is the piece the bolt locks into? If that is the case I'd not worry about it. If the gun is just a semi you'll likely never wear it out. If its a real 34 than you'll wear it out if you ...

Re: MG3 Bolt Head?

In addition the MG3 bolt head will take a different extractor retainer that won't work with the M53 bolt head. If you already have spares for the M53 bolts you're better off with them.

Re: Belts, 50, 150, 250..????

The belts used in the HK21 are DM1 belts and the ones RTG is selling are also. No difference between them. Standard length for field use belts are 50 rds and the segments of 50 can be linked together to make any multiple of 50rds. I have seen 100rd belts and 200rd belts which are used in vehicles an...

Re: MG08 barrel fit an MG08/15?

Actually if its threaded it means its a german maxim barrel. I've seen a couple german proofed barrels with no threads but not for a long time. Almost all the barrels out there are threaded so they could be used for either gun. On the other hand most of the chinese and Swiss barrels I've seen are no...
