Re: Waffenmeister must have had a rush day....

FR, I don't know what kind of bipod you have, early or late, but if you have the slotted cups, left and right of the pivot/adjuster, try unscrewing them 2 or 3 turns each to take some of the tension off the two springs they encapsulate. The cups may be screwed so far into the P/A that the springs/pl...

Re: Waffenmeister must have had a rush day....

Strange, both my bipods were able to rotate continuously 360° (1x MG34 and 1x converted 34 for an MG42). Both were earlyish/mid war with the long reinforcing spines. Evidently, the Germans cheaped out on function as well as material bulk.

Re: Waffenmeister must have had a rush day....

Well I have seen photo's of soldiers shooting it with the bi-pod turned around and it dose turn. I was refering to the retaining clips not clipping, not the rotation of the bipod. Got it! The outer hinge part/adjuster is not symmetrical, to allow the MG to be propped up, so no matter whether it is ...

Re: Waffenmeister must have had a rush day....

Not problems, per se, but I can see that the bipod has been spun around 180° and a replaced top cover/feed tray added.

Shelly,
I wasn't having a go I was just going with the theme of the thread and referencing the fact that the WaC ad is misleading.

Re: Is this a good deal on a WW2 Lafette?

The tripod on 'What a Country' is NOT German WW2. Apart from the black T&E, sight block, fabric pads the obvious idicator that it is post war is the overly wide D-rings. Original German D-rings are slimmer and fit the welded tabs just right.

Re: Diagram of Wise Lite new style bolt ?

Ah, the photo is cropped on the right. You'll need someone else to put you right on those components.

That is really shitty service especially so with a niche business such as this. I punched in 'Wiselite MG42' on the web and, in the few minutes I looked, it was all negative.

Re: Diagram of Wise Lite new style bolt ?

The bolt and bolt carrier surely go back together as they are orientated in your photograph. The cartridge stripping ramp at the top, front of the bolt head and the feed mechanism stud behind it, affixed to the top mid-section of the bolt carrier. Don't forget to load in your other components. That ...

Re: MG 42 cone muzzle break with extra fin

Jonathan,
I know the holes you mean, like paired staple holes going around the thin section. So that production detail was across the board for all manufaturers? From what you say I presume it was. When were they fazed out? More importantly what was their purpose?

Re: Need help with Lafette restoration

If your really up for it try and find a good, old school cobbler or an upholsterer, get some original or contemporary photos of the original leather pads (fabric pads are post war) and see if they can replicate the originals and stitch them on for you.

You should start a restoration thread like I did to document your steps. Good to see what people get up to.

Allegheny Arsenal (mg34.com) does a fairly decent, not perfect, range plate:

Re: Need help with Lafette restoration

You'll need a peg spanner or circlip pliers to undo the nut and strap spanner or similar to grap hold of the cylinder/cylinder head. You might also be able to grab the nut and cylinder with some appropriately sized pliers, however, be sure to pad them with lead, brass or aluminium strip so as not to...

Is it original to the rest of the gun? If so, what is the maker, date, cocking handle type etc?

Re: Need help with Lafette restoration

Blimey, it looks like a beehive. What solvent are you using now? Petrol (Gasoline for you Yanks) would make light work of that in comparison to Paraffin (sorry, Kerosene). It is much more volatile and aggressive with grease and oil. If you want, the E&T mech can be easily broken down into the two ma...

Re: Need help with Lafette restoration

As 42 said the elevating knob does click in and out about 5mm to engage/disengage with the two sliding limiters next to it. The E&T Mechanism is really quite simple and nothing to worry about, the hardest part, and where your most likely to injure yourself, is separating the spring loaded plungers t...
