The lid opens and hinges to the rear, it's the first pattern; they were later changed to hinge from the side, where the lid lifts off to the side, not the rear. It looks like the guys in the truck with the Vickers guns went down with a heck of a fight. The expended belts everywhere sure look like they were shooting a lot.

The sled looks really good after you got the gold paint off! Why gold paint by the way? Was this a gate guardian at a night club or something? :photos:

Wow, that's a nice 09 MG08 and sled mount! Too bad it's a kit, but glad to see you got one that nice! I'd love to have an early war gun and mount, but haven't seen any for sale in some time that i had the $$ to get due to family concerns, etc. Nice gun! The slider looks like it belongs on a standard Gewehr 98 with the roller coaster sight, I think that's what it is- neat score! You did great!

Im going to sell my MG34 layette 34, Im in the hospital right now, but I'll try to add pics later! It's a Norwegian one, it's painted their OD green color, but that's about all that's been changed on it. The Lafitte was made in 1939 by Brandenburger Fahrrad, "excelsior" and is marked with a triangle...
