hey the other the I neglected to mention was in relation to grinding welds - when I took my test to become certified in plate welding (taking the pipe test in December) a few weeks ago. Ther test consists of welding 2 pieces of 1/2 plate end to end, grinding the weld flush, cutting out a 2 inch sect...

yeah I hear ya. I HATE the PITA the corrosive stuff ends up being. I know guys that seem to have no troubles with it and while I get away with it, Ive also been burned a few times. Even though 8mm is cheaper, I find I shoot 3-4 times as much belt fed 308 as 8mm simply for the convience. That and I h...

Sounds like you really went to a lot of trouble - certainly your receiver is probabaly better that mine. I ground off all the slag. Then I made a copy of Pirates jig with a few mods. I set my length using the top cover, bipod, and barrel/booster, then checked to make sure my OAL was close. Next I ma...

For $110 more you get the 8mm parts. 308 parts - top cover, barrel and feed tray will cost you about $200 more fron Dan, RTG, and IO. If you go 308 and then buy 8mm parts you'll spend about $300 ( of course subtract the 110 you saved over the 8mm kit.) The downside is you'll have more trouble findin...

I still need to fit the stock saftey. I mixed up my own custom color of KG gun coat going for a dark blue black color. It matches a blued WWII 8mm NOS topcover perfect with the exception that the receiver isnt as bright since the metal was rougher to start with and I didnt feel like polishing it smo...

hardening a firing pin - How to?
Well, I made it threw the 8mm trials and got the beast functioning with 8mm and 308. Only probs I had were belt related - I got a smokin deal at the gunshow on 308 postwar belts and the gun hates them. After I went back to wwII belts she ran great. I have noticed my FP is peened a bit on both ends. ...

I bought mine used here - after a long nervous dicked around period, I ended up having to replace the sear (under $30) due to a previous owners home 'smithing'. I runs great, the trigger sucks but can be improved to about 8 pounds with proper and careful stoning/polishing. NONE of my numbers match (...

As much as I hate to say it....I have heard a few stories of guys getting burned by the alphabet soup guys and serious hassles from local LEO's. Most of us want a firearm that looks similar to the largely unobtainable FA cousins. Heck, even if I had 40 K laying around I really couldnt see spending i...

I have a rod (3/16) that I welded in to limit the triggers travel up wards at the rear - if you dont - youre right, the hammer WILL FOLLOW! - and you'll have an out of battery explosion which is BAD. THe same thing will happen if you use a hammer with the rear ground off - ask me how I know - DOOOH!

Bringing only 300 rounds to the range with you! Thankfully I had a buddy close by with a loader and 150 more rounds. Thats right. WE our most sucessful range session - a 450 round rapid fire test. I had a few light strikes but they only happened when the barrel door popped open - I replaced the repl...

Then redo the bolt extension and Ill post pics so other foolish mortals came get into the sickness. I woke up at midnight and spent 2 hours taking everything apart and c...

Pirate - you da man! When I went thru my FCG, I noticed I was using a trigger that I had previously ground down the rear of from the first grip stick. Too many parts and crap on the bench led me putting it in the new one I guess. In any case, It had enough vertical play the allow the hammer to miss ...

Make sure the hammer is moving freely and that you firing pin(s) slide easily. I had trouble with the flat ejector bars slowing the firing pin so I went with one of the yugo old style/round ones and it made a world of difference. You can also bend the legs of the AR hammer spring to get more tension...
