WHAT IS THIS BOLT MADE OF!!!

 So I made the first mistake of trying to weld up my receiver myself. Needless to say my amature welding skills have presented me with countless problems. I know I know, I shoulda spent the money to get it done professionally, but thats just not me. I always have to learn the hard way. Tonight...

Re: The SA42 and 922R regulations????

Droolingidiot...........you make a good point. I just hope the ATF would see it that way. Somehow I doubt it. Still, Id hate to be the first person to get busted for 922 non compliance.

I will continue with my build. More questions to follow!

Re: The SA42 and 922R regulations????

No, yes, no, yes. Well, this sure makes things clear as mud.....One of the reasons I got away from gun plumbing a while back was because of this 922 ans AWB issues. Think the feds would buy it if I just took a sharpie and wrote US on all my parts? 8)

Re: The SA42 and 922R regulations????

Well isnt that just great. Phuck me to tears. So what are we all using for US parts? Ive seen actual pics on this site of people using IZZY made FAL trigger parts, so obviously some of us are taking this issue more seriously than others. What are the US parts count in this weapon? (ie how much MORE ...

Re: The SA42 and 922R regulations????

I did a quick google and see what you were talking about. However I found this saving grace....The M14 Receivers were not demilled to standard before re assembly. They never were truly destroyed. Even though they were now semi's, they were never destroyed as machine guns. My 4 cut German receiver wa...

The SA42 and 922R regulations????

Is the semi auto MG42 subject to 922R compliance? If so, does a welded up German receiver count as a US part? ( it was scrap, I built it into a receiver...) What other parts count if necessary? Id hate to find out that Im walking into a grey area after all this work...

Need pics of 'sail panel' on semi bolt please.....

The receiver is almost finished. I need to see pics of the bolt to see if its something I want to tackle. Does anybody have good pics of a semi bolt? Thanks-Scott

Re: Difference between 42 & 53 recoil buffers

I may be mistaken, but it should fit without modification. I spent the better part of today cleaning up my welds and fitting my Yugo buffer to my German receiver. Didnt have to touch the buffer......

Anybody pop rivet their rails?

Well, being the new guy around here I figured ID ask. Has anybody pop riveted their rails and how did it work out? I know its not authentic, but it sure would be a hell of alot easier.

Oh, and sorry for having 3 threads in a row! Cmon people, post more!

Re: need tips to clean up welds.

I got pretty aggressive with one of the welds, the one right in the middle. I was sooooo busy sanding every pit out that now the receiver is a bit thinner in that spot. Barely noticible, but its there. Maybe ill spread it out a bit from the inside, the rails are super tight as it is. I bought some m...

need tips to clean up welds.

Hey guys, Ive got most of the receiver welded up but my welds are pretty ugly. Are their any preferred ways to clean up my weld lines? A angle grinder is too aggressive and mars the receiver, and a dremel takes forever. Ive used some 60 grit sanding flap disks from the depot, they work well but at 5...

Welding 1/2 gaps, some questions.

Well Ive spent all weekend working my little Harbor Freight MIG welder to death. Wow, some of the gaps in my receiver well exceeded 1/2 inch. In the areas that were larger than 1/2 inch I used filler plates of steel, the rest I just 'flowed' in. Now, do I have to heat treat these welds? (Somebody me...

Re: How to build a dummy without damaging reciever??

I started the welding tonight. Ive tack welded the shroud and the camming section, and the rear of the receiver behind the camming section. I might actually be able to pull this off with a MIG welder. Ill have to go slow and only do small spots at a time, with lots of filler material, but I might ac...

Re: How to build a dummy without damaging reciever??

Im thinking Im gonna install the FA bolt stop and NOT install the rails. I will open up the trigger slot so it wont accept the FA trigger group. Im starting with the bbl shroud/camming section tonight. I figure this will be fairly easy, with the cam in place it will give me a template to weld by...

Re: How to build a dummy without damaging reciever??

There is no way Im gonna try and weld this thing into a functioning semi gun. As I stated earlier, all I have access to is a nasty cheap MIG welder. TIG welders run 300-400, but a semi welding service will run me 450. Im NOT gonna butcher this gun to save myself 50 bucks. And even if I did, I dont k...

How to build a dummy without damaging reciever??

Ive come to the conclusion that I just cant afford the receiver welding for a semi right now. What Id like to do is mock it up and hang it on the wall as a dummy gun. Now, my receiver has about 1/8 to 1/4" gap between parts, so I was thinking about doint this: Dummy the receiver up and tack weld som...
