Re: Ammo, the good, the bad, the ugly.

This is why its good to get a 7.62 NATO (.308) conversion kit. 8mm is a great round but is getting somewhat limited. If you invest in a good MG3 .308 barrel (possibly a smaller or .308 nozzle if needed), NOS MG1 top covers and feed trays can be had for $89...and that opens up a world of alternatives...

Re: Help with Build

Like John said, I'd wait till the receiver was done before doing anything with it in that regard. Sometimes "flipping" the barrel/extension can help due to slight warpage in either the barrel or the shroud. I've found too that some extensions (the post war 7.62 types) can sometime be a tad...

Re: Help with Build

I'm glad I could help. I wish RTG, BRP and GM all had a vendor presence here as I'm sure we are their best customers. I sometimes hesitate to direct members to others sites, but sometimes we have to in order to share info, especially on parts deals. WG is a very good site, and just like here we have...

Re: Help with Build

Go the the Weapons guild site and join it...there you will find in the 'vendors section' - "Global Machining" you can get the contact info phone # for ordering there (they are great guys to deal with). If you are a member there you get like a $50 discount for being a WG member. These are t...

Re: $460 Yugo Lafette Tripods Available (x2)

Not sure on the importation side, but the shipping is what would drive the price up a lot as they are big and heavy coming from the UK. I got my MG3 lafette from RTG, but he is out of those. I bought my last two Yugo lafettes from Robert Bowman (an importer) who charged a reasonable shipping charge ...

Re: Good deals on yugo M53 basket drums, cans and split slings

I see the prices are creeping up on these since I first posted them...still good deals though. I just got done repainting some barrel carriers, basket drums, can and laffetes in both panzer gray and ordnance tan using spray paint from 1944 militaria. They turned out great, I'll have to post some pic...

Re: Help with Build

I like using the Global Machining receiver shells - can be had for about $275. I use the BRP grip and bolt kit..for first time builders its best not to reinvent the wheel. Like John said read the stickies, read the build threads here and buy a set of manuals so you understand how it works. You want ...

Re: Early mg3 snail drum with screw attachments ?

First, welcome to the board. I believe those were Spanish contract drums, actually meant for the MG1 type feed tray. In fact it is most likely marked '7.62x51 NATO' with a Spanish emblem which is similar to the Spanish Santa Barbara emblem (sword through a circle). If yours is marked differently ple...

Re: Hammer follow

On the Tula ammo, just to be clear, I don't have a problem with Tula in *most* platforms. I use it as cheap 'blaster ammo' in AK's and even AR's...I just don't recommend Tula .308 in this platform as read many complaints from blown primers to head case separation as you have found. Seems Fals have i...

Re: Hammer follow

I've heard of Tula .308 doing that in these guns...I'd stay away from it in this platform. It may be fine in other guns, but not this one. I'd try some different NATO spec .308 (7.62x51). If you find some South African or German NATO surplus, I'd try that. Stay clear of Indian .308 surplus. Oddly I'...

Re: Hammer follow

Sounds like you are on the right track with the hammer follow. The FP must move freely without any sort of bind. Sometimes taking emery cloth over it and polishing it helps...just don't get carried away and make it small as that will actually cause bind too...just go a little at a time and test. Mak...

Re: Hammer follow

The below thread has a few pics of some of my semi hammers and B/C's related to what you are asking, showing both the hammer G/S mods and notice the semi bolt carriers I have pictured. The smoothest ones I have are the BRP type 2 (4th one on the right) and the modified BRP kit (3rd one) in which I s...

Re: WHERE TO SELL A M53

I'd post it on the FS forum here and if it doesn't sell post it on GB.

Besides posting lots of pics IMO it helps with guns like these to post a video of it running a 50 round belt. You can record a vid, post it on YT, then link it here in the FS post.

Re: Semi mg42 parts

For those still interested in semi auto bolts, I see RTG has a few semi auto bolt carriers in stock now, both with bolt head and without. RTG lists them now too with the bolt head (type II). BRP also now have semi auto bolt carriers kits (Type I) as well. Hopefully they will have some grip stocks li...

Re: Wiselite Receiver/Ejection issues

The first thing I'd do (with the gun unloaded) is remove the top cover and pull the charging handle back as far as it will travel. I sit on the floor and hold the gun between my legs and with a small flash light in my mouth (if I don't have a helper) and carefully watch the contact of the recoil spr...

Re: Semi mg42 parts

Last I knew Apex had some NOS stock grips from Wiselite. Apex have the semi grips minus the AR internals. Wouldn't be hard to use one of them. They list a tall and short type, given the choice I'd go with the tall type which moves the hammer lower in regards to the bolt (which is a common issue on t...
