Re: MG-42/M-53 kits

I have never dealt with Florida Gun Works but I have seen their name for years on the net. You may want to google the name and read some of the comments before deciding to send any money. There was a comment several years ago that if you can't afford to deal with them face to face, you can't afford ...

Neatsfoot oil is a rendering from animals and allows the leather fibers to release from each other and feeds bacteria and fungus. If the leather gets wet, the whole process is accelerated. I grew up on a farm/ranch. It took forever to convience my father and uncle to stop using neatsfoot oil as that...

These are really nice and are great to increase the parts count. Besides that, you get to have a transaction with Dan which is always a pleasure.

There is some thing on this on the BATF web site. As I recall it includes welding the barrel itself closed and welding the bolt to the barrel and/or receiver. The biggest thing is the full auto receiver can not be "reconstructed" as it would still be a machine gun even though the weapon would be "in...

Mothballs can be used to kill mildew that is imbedded in some thing. Wrap the mothballs in some thing. I put them in old socks which is a convenient way to not have to handle them again. Or wrap up the items to be treated in say a pillow case. The main thing is to keep the mothballs from being in di...

The purpose of the bolt block is to catch on the lugs on the bottom of an original bolt, thus preventing the origninal (full auto) bolt from being inserted into the frame. There are no evil features on top of the bolt. Therefore the bolt block is welded into the bottom interior of the frame.

As I understand it, and hopefully some one will jump in if I am wrong, the orginal charging handle has to modified to work with Pirate's gripstick and bolt. The short leg of the "L" of the charging handle has to be shortened to clear the hammer as the leg will not go over the hammer. But the short l...

The trigger stop pin/sear over travel stop pin disappeared some where from the gripstick that I got from Pirate. I went to the local TruValue yesterday and picked up a roll pin that looked over size but it tapped right in, protudes just a very little on each side and is not going any where.

For what it is worth, on the FalFiles.com forum the original FNFAL fire control group is regarded as being superior to the same US made parts, especially the hammer (US part has a higher breakage rate) and sear (US part often does not have quite the right angle on it so the original sear is put back...
